I am part of a women’s circle that is organizing Naples Leading the Way for Sustainability starting on October 24th, International Day of Climate Action. Dianne Rhodes, our Canadian sister living in Naples and founder of Naples Network for Climate Action, called a small circle of co-creative dreamers and organizers to plan a week long of celebrations and sustainable actions. Our local circle is part of what will soon be a tipping point of circles joining together locally and globally with 350.org Http://350.org . 350.org is an international campaign dedicated to building a movement to unite the world around solutions to the climate crisis. The number 350—as in parts per million—is the level scientist have identified as the safe upper limit for CO2 in our atmosphere. Rajendra Pachauri, chair of the UN’s official climate science panel, just personally endorsed the 350 ppm target.
We are planning with our mayor, city officials, green businesses, schools, churches, environmental organizations, Earth Charter and The Little Earth Charter, women’s circles, and individuals a week of activities that lead to sustainability. The police will have a free bike inspection day for kids. We will have a buy local day featuring all of our organic markets and farmer’s markets. We will have a lights out night with astronomers teaching us about the stars, we will have music performances, dancing and drumming and much more. Our small circle is not organizing all these events but rather we are the catalyst with oversight.
What are you doing on October 24? Gather the women, circle and join us in contributing to the Millionth Circle for sustainability. Rhonda and I are available to help you get started.
Namaste!!! Ann Smith
