First Woman Mayor of Sofia Elected

Sofia Mayor

YORDANKA FANDAKOVA FIRST WOMAN MAYOR OF BULGARIAN CAPITAL SOFIA

With her landslide election Sunday, Yordanka Fandakova has become the first woman Mayor of the capital Sofia in the country’s history.

Fandakova, a candidate of the ruling GERB party vigorously endorsed by popular Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, has become the 61st Mayor of the capital Sofia. All sixty mayors before her since the Sofia Mayor position was established in 1878 have been men.

The Prime Minister when mayor of Sofia endored our women’s conference, Ways Women Lead, October 24-27, 2010, in Sofia, Bulgaria.  Now with a woman mayor, Yordanka Fandakova, we are doubly blessed.  Congratulations to Yordanka, to the Prime Minister and to the people of Bulgaria.  This is very good news.  For more information and to get involved with Ways Women Lead: Women and Girls in Leadership for the Common good go to www.wayswomenlead.net Namaste!!!   Ann
